The artists invited last autumn and spring were <strong>Elise Peroi<\/strong>,<strong> Jeanne Tresvaux du Fraval<\/strong>,<strong> Alice Guittard <\/strong>and<strong> Mathilde Rouiller<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Elise was based at the foot of the arenas at the Fondation Thalie, while Jeanne, Alice and Mathilde took over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lamadeleinearles.com\/en\/r\u00e9sidence-artistes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ateliers de La Madeleine<\/a> on the other side of the Rh\u00f4ne. Each of them plunged into the history and geography of the region, weaving together stories and landscapes, appropriating &#8211; and reinterpreting &#8211; trades, architecture, traditions, plants and minerals.<\/p>\n<p>The works on display are the fruit of privileged encounters with a community of local artisans who have generously committed themselves to this multi-handed effort.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Fondation Thalie<\/strong> and <strong>Les Ateliers de La Madeleine<\/strong> are delighted to unveil this spring harvest, and to present these original works inspired by Arles and Provence, resulting both from a personal and collective research.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Elise Peroi, Fondation Thalie (October 2023 &#8211; March 2024<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As the first artist in residence at the Foundation, Elise Peroi reinterprets of the gardian&#8217;s hut, following the idea of architecture inhabiting the landscape. The work consists of a structure with a wooden frame created with the help of Raymond, a local sculptor. The panels of the hut were painted, then cut out and woven by the artist&#8217;s hand on fabric from the Queen of Arles. Inside this refuge-like habitat, Elise has placed objects from everyday life: a water filter, a cage, kitchen utensils and so on. Embracing the <em>wabi-sabi<\/em> aesthetic, this\u00a0poetic and sensitive work invites, through the intelligence of the hand and the artist&#8217;s eye, a certain kind of beauty in simplicity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Alice Guittard &amp; Mathilde Rouiller, Les Ateliers de La Madeleine (October 2023 &#8211; March 2024)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Alice Guittard, sculptor and photographer, and Mathilde Rouiller, performer and scenographer, bring their two practices together for the first time.<br \/>\nAu Printemps tu manges l&#8217;Automne&#8221; (&#8220;In Spring you eat Autumn&#8221;) gradually takes on the form of a sculpture-performance during the weeks of residency, blending linear and cyclical time, living and mineral time. In collaboration with the Fontvieille stone quarry and Fleurs d&#8217;Arles, the sculpture is activated according to the seasons, creating a new cartography of the Arles region.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jeanne Tresvaux du Fraval, Les Ateliers de La Madeleine (October 2023 &#8211; March 2024)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Evolving at the frontier between design and the visual arts, Jeanne has chosen to focus her Arles residency on the objects and garments of Provence&#8217;s traditional trades. Reinterpreting the latter with the help of local artisans and resources, the artist proposes &#8220;Un \u00c9talage ordinaire&#8221;, a nomadic installation as a collection of uses, shapes, colors and materials. Each piece can be assembled, superimposed and folded, like a modular construction set. The archival inventory is made from materials naturally destined to disappear. The artifacts sketch out a way of life in which nature is placed at the center of human life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>PRACTICAL INFORMATION <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Opening on Thursday 28 March, 6-9pm, in the presence of the artists.<br \/>\nExhibition from 29 March to 6 April 2024 upon free admission, from 12 pm to 6 pm<br \/>\nSpecial opening hours on Friday 29, Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 March to coincide with the Feria (11 am to 5 pm).
