Taken from sites that are under construction and doomed to disappear, these samples show the vestiges and invisible transformations of subterranean cities and worlds.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>ISMYRNE<\/em> &#8211; 2016 (50\u201d)<\/strong><br \/>\nJoana met and interviewed the artist and poet Etel Adnan in the late 1990s. Both of them had a connection with the city of Smyrna, yet neither had ever been there. The film explores their attachment to objects, places, imaginary constructions and mythologies without images.<\/p>\n<p>The Lebanese artists and filmmakers, <strong>Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige<\/strong> (1969, Beirut) interweave thematic and conceptual links between photography, video installations, fiction and documentary film. For over 15 years, the films as well as their other works, which are based on personal or political documents, have told the stories of history that have been kept secret in the face of the dominant historical narrative.
